Jamie Dunn, young entrepreneur, sets up motivational academy in Birmingham
Jamie Dunn is an 18-year-old entrepreneur from Birmingham. He’s one of the UK’s brightest young businessmen and he is confident of becoming a millionaire by the age of 20.
After graduating from the National Enterprise Academy, set up in 2008 by Peter Jones from the Dragons’ Den, Jamie is now a Virgin Media Pioneer and has been sponsored by a pair of companies in Digbeth since June this year.
Jamie now runs his own motivational academy, The Jamie Dunn Academy, where he inspires other young entrepreneurs and businessmen from Birmingham and further afield. While also working on his first book, The Entrepreneurs’ Handbook, we caught up with Jamie for a sneaky preview of the kind experiences he’ll be sharing in The Entrepreneurs’ Handbook and the kind of tips we can expect to learn from The Jamie Dunn Academy.
Facing age problems
On the topic of tackling age discrimination as a young entrepreneur in Birmingham, Jamie gives us the benefit of his experience and what encouraged him to keep working for success…
Since starting young, many stated at the time that it was the worst thing that I could have done because of my lack of experience and everybody thought that I wouldn’t get taken seriously, but then I discovered a saying and it really hit home for me, “Never be afraid to do something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic.”
The way that I see it, everybody started from somewhere, we are all a blank canvas when we are brought into this world, some of us decide to take years thinking about what colours to use, but others have a stroke of genius and create a master-piece. I am far too impatient and hungry to want to spend time picking out my colours and deciding what print to use, I just went for it despite everything and it was the best decision I ever made, here’s why.
Jamie goes on to tell us the reasons why youthfulness can be a strong advantage for an entrepreneur in the UK today. He the tells us how to handle the motivational issues when you’re younger, and sums things up like this…
I bet many of you are still very sceptical about starting young; I was at the same point as you once upon a time and then my mindset completely changed when I couldn’t afford the new playstation that was coming out. Having this kind of motivation, no matter how small or how little, it all affects your brain and your well-being and this spurred me on to think, why not? I may as well try and make some money now because when I get older it will be so much harder, just take that risk, come out of your comfort zone and go and make your millions.
If this sounds like it could inspire you, check out The Jamie Dunn Academy and look out for Jamie’s new book which will be hitting the shelves in no time.
Jamie has also been keeping a daily journal of his steps towards becoming a millionaire by the age of 20, published on a blog entitled “Million In Days”, which may or may not be publically accessible at the time of you reading this story.
